The Lau­sanne Haemophil­ia and Bleed­ing Disorders Care Cen­tre is part of the Cen­tre Hos­pi­tal­ier Uni­ver­si­taire Vau­dois (CHUV), the Uni­ver­si­ty Hos­pi­tal of Lau­sanne, which is one of five Swiss Uni­ver­si­ty Hos­pi­tals, and is ide­al­ly locat­ed in the heart of the French-speak­ing part of Switzer­land. The Cen­ter is rec­og­nized as “Euro­pean Haemophil­ia Com­pre­hen­sive Care Cen­tre” and is com­posed by two Clin­i­cal units (“Pae­di­atrics” – Head: PD Dr. med. Mat­tia RIZZI – nest­ed in the Haema­to-Oncol­o­gy Sec­tion of the Divi­sion of Pae­di­atrics and “Adults” – Head: Prof. Dr. med. Loren­zo ALBERIO – part of the Divi­sion of Haema­tol­ogy) and the Haemosta­sis Lab­o­ra­to­ry facil­i­ties (Diag­nos­tics and Research – Head: Prof. Dr. med. Loren­zo ALBERIO) of the Cen­tral Haema­tol­ogy Lab­o­ra­to­ry.

The “Adults” unit of the Cen­ter is com­posed of med­ical, nurs­ing, tech­ni­cal, and admin­is­tra­tive per­son­nel. The strength of the team and the close inter­ac­tions between clin­ics, lab­o­ra­to­ry, and radi­ol­o­gy makes it pos­si­ble to respond effi­cient­ly and com­pe­tent­ly to a wide range of demands, from sim­ple con­sul­ta­tions to more com­plex sit­u­a­tions requir­ing a mul­ti­dis­ci­pli­nary col­lab­o­ra­tion.

Patients can ben­e­fit from emer­gency rooms, var­i­ous med­ical spe­cial­ists, and the tech­ni­cal plat­forms at the CHUV 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A spe­cial alert sys­tem high­lights patients with bleed­ing disorders fol­lowed at our hos­pi­tal, indi­cat­ing the under­ly­ing pathol­o­gy and the appro­pri­ate emer­gency med­ica­tion, and accel­er­at­ing the con­tact with the Hematology/Haemostasis spe­cial­ist. Our spe­cialised nurs­es offer a con­tin­u­ous and per­son­al­ized care; our physi­cians are ded­i­cat­ed to the indi­vid­ual patient’s needs; our tech­ni­cal per­son­nel aims at the high­est diag­nos­tic per­for­mance; our research team works for a bet­ter under­stand­ing of bleed­ing disorders and their treat­ment.
